Why: It’s important that we do a Fall Clean-Up to ensure that your landscape will make it through the winter unharmed and add some final color and life before the season ends.

What: Fall Clean-Ups typically include a lot of the same services you would see during a Spring Clean-Up (which we also cover), but there are also a few extra steps we must take in the Fall for preparing your yard and plants for the winter. Firstly, in the Fall we know that lots of seasonal foliage wilts and falls, it is important we start by raking and removing all plant debris. Plant debris like fallen leaves left over the winter months can be perfect places for unwanted pests to nest and can suffocate your grass throughout the winter. After we remove fallen debris and plants, it’s vital that we do a thorough final pruning of the season. We trim up dead, damaged or diseased branches on the plants to ensure they will survive the winter and not be damaged by snow and cold. If you have a garden this is also the perfect time to have a final harvest of garden plants and add ones that won’t last the Winter to the compost pile. While pruning and harvesting we also pull up unwanted weeds that are popping up in beds and walkways. After most of the pickup and hard work is done it’s important, we add a bit of life back into our gardens, lawns, and beds. Fall is a perfect time for planting; some perennials will hold better in the fall months and planting autumn annuals can add new color and life to your property. Not only is it a good time to add new plants to your landscape, it’s also a great time to transplant and/or divide perennials that exploded over the summer. Personally, we saw our many species of Hosta’s flourish, and we were able to bring some new life to bed that were lacking a certain flare by dividing and transplanting. While planting and cleaning in the Fall, it is a crucial time to fertilize both our plants and our lawn. Finally, one of the last steps we take in a Fall Clean-up is to mulch. Mulch will help retain soil moisture, suppress weed growth, and protect bare soil from erosion. Mulch also helps protect cold sensitive plants by adding a bit extra to the base of the plants and in some cases, we use cloth wrap to protect the plants from the cold harsh winters. These are the steps and services we offer that make sure your landscape looks amazing in the fall and will return to you in the spring.
